Mining

What & How

DMC provides specialized geotechnical consulting services to support mine owners, operators, and EPCM firms across the full mine lifecycle from early-stage exploration and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, operations, closure, and reclamation.

We support the planning, investigation, design, and ongoing performance assessment of tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, open pit slopes, and critical mine infrastructure. Our engineers combine advanced numerical modeling, field instrumentation, and operational support to manage geotechnical risk, optimize designs, and meet the evolving expectations of regulators, insurers, and investors.

From slope stability in deep open pits to the seismic and static performance of tailings dams and foundations, DMC delivers practical, defensible engineering grounded in international best practice and a strong understanding of mine operations, constructability, and life-of-mine performance.

Our Services Include:

  • Geotechnical site investigations for mine infrastructure and facilities utilizing auger, ODEX, Sonic, CPT/SCPT, mud rotary, Becker hammer and other drilling methods as appropriate
  • Tailings storage facility (TSF) site characterization and foundation assessment
  • Static and seismic stability analyses of tailings dams and embankments using NRCan 6th Generation Seismic Hazard model of a site specific PSHA if available
  • Waste rock dump design and stability assessment using Guidelines for mine waste dump and stockpile design (Hawley and Cunning 2017)
  • Rock mass characterization and structural geology
  • Seepage, pore pressure, and dewatering analysis
  • Site response analysis (equivalent linear or non-linear)
  • Liquefaction and post-liquefaction deformation assessment
  • Geotechnical instrumentation design, installation, and interpretation
  • Engineer of Record (EOR) support
  • Construction quality assurance and performance monitoring
  • Closure, reclamation, and long-term stability assessments
