What & How

DMC provides specialized geotechnical and geohazard consulting services to support the development of energy infrastructure across Western Canada, including hydroelectric, wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage projects. Our team members have extensive experience with BC Hydro, Yukon Energy, independent power producers, and EPCM firms to address the complex ground, seismic, and terrain challenges associated with major linear and point infrastructure in remote, mountainous, and environmentally sensitive settings.

We can support projects from early site selection and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, and operations. Our engineers bring deep expertise in foundations, slopes, underground works, and dam and water conveyance systems, delivering resilient designs that account for seismic loading, extreme hydrological events, long-term performance, and constructability. 

From powerhouse and turbine foundations to transmission line corridors and access roads, DMC combines strong field capability, advanced analytical tools, and regulatory experience to manage geotechnical risk and support the safe, reliable delivery of critical energy infrastructure.

Our Services Include:

  • Geotechnical site investigations for powerhouses, substations, wind turbines, solar arrays, and energy storage facilities including experience acting as the Prime Contractor as per WorkSafeBC requirements.
  • Seismic hazard, site response, and liquefaction assessments using the 6th Generation Seismic Hazard or site-specific PSHA.
  • Foundation design for heavy and dynamically loaded structures such as transmission lines and use of IEEE 691.
  • Duct bank geotechnical support using BC Hydro’s ES54.
  • Transmission line and access road geotechnical support.
  • Distribution and Transmission Line design to BC Hydro’s ES 55.
  • Slope stability and landslide hazard assessments using EGBC Landslide Assessments document.
  • Rock slope stability analysis.
  • Ground anchor and soil nail wall design (using CIRIA C637 or FHWA Circular No. 4 and 7).
  • Dam, intake, penstock, and water conveyance geotechnical support.
  • Ground improvement and stabilization in conjunction with specialist contractors.
  • Scour, erosion, and slope protection design.
  • Instrumentation and performance monitoring e.g. inclinometer readings, VWPs, survey points, etc.
  • WEAP analysis and pile driving inspections.
  • Construction geotechnical services and EOR support.
  • Vibration monitoring and use of standards such as DIN 4150.
  • Forensic investigations and performance assessments.
